If you plan on being in or around Lisbon between March 8-29 or October 3-25, 2014, make time in your itinerary to take in a concert at the Palace of Queluz.
Located just 20 minutes northwest of Lisbon, the Palace of Queluz was built as a country estate for the royal family and was transformed in the late 1700s by Infante Dom Pedro into the grander Summer Palace which is often referred to as the Portuguese Versailles.
The 2014 music programme entitled Tempest and Galanterie will consist of 2 cycles, Carnival (in March) and Autumn (in October). It will include a total of 11 concerts featuring the music of Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn, among others. Tickets will range from €15 to €20, and season tickets for each cycle will also be available and range in price from €60 to €90. Discounted student tickets will be sold for each concert for €10. Rather than return to Lisbon, why not consider spending the night in Queluz at the Pousada Palácio de Queluz. Located next to the palace, the Pousada is housed in the 17th C. building that was formerly used by the Royal Guard of the Court of the palace. For more information on the Pousada, click here.
