Once you’ve done all of your research and booked your trip, the next step is to plan out your daily schedule to make sure you fit in as many of the “must see” sites that you can. There are so many things to see and do in Madrid – you could spend a week alone visiting museums – that you want to be sure you make the best use of your time so you don’t miss any of the top attractions.
On this 4 hour private walking tour we have done the work for you to ensure that you will see the sites that most often appear on “must see” lists for Madrid. Your personal guide will meet you at your hotel and take you on a route that will show you the main attractions, while providing you with a history and the backstory of the city and the sites. This is an external tour of the sites and does not include entry to any of the attractions.
This is a great way to get an initial orientation of Madrid. Once you have a good overview of the city, you can return to the sites that are of most interest to you so you can take your time to do an interior tour (either on your own, or with a private guide).
The tour can be customized to meet your specific interests. Depending on the pace you want to take, you can see most – or all – of these top attractions on the tour:
- Royal Palace – the city’s most beautiful building, and the largest royal palace in Western Europe
- Plaza del Oriente – beautiful square in front of the Royal Palace
- Plaza Mayor – a grand enclosed square in the heart of Madrid of los Austrias
- Almudena Cathedral – the city’s largest and most important church, and only Spanish cathedral consecrated by a pope (Pope John Paul II in 1993)
- Plaza de la Villa – historic square that is home to the 15th C. Torre de Lujanes, 16th C. Casa de Cisneros, and 17th C. Casa de la Villa
- Puerta del Sol – this famous square is the heart of Madrid and the starting point (Kilometer Zero) for the country’s 6 national highways
- Gran Vía – the city’s most famous boulevard that traverses through the heart of the city
- Prado Museum – Spain’s top museum with one of the finest art collections in the world
