If you are visiting the Alentejo region of Portugal between July 18-27, 2013, be sure to check out the Sines music festival, which takes place each year in July.
Sines is located on the coast, about an hour and a half south of Lisbon. It is the birthplace of explorer Vasco da Gama, who discovered the sea route to India. Overlooking the Atlantic, it is a charming medieval town with a historic city center, and also offers 30 kms. of pristine beaches.
The annual music festival is the largest in Portugal, and it attracts a wide variety of international artists from across the music spectrum. The festival is held amidst the backdrop of Sines’ 15th C. Castle, which overlooks the bay and is where Vasco da Gama is said to have spent his childhood.
