Visitors to Lisbon have a new place to add to their list of “must see” sites that has quickly become a vibrant hot spot for locals and visitors alike: the Time Out Market in the historic Mercado da Ribeira. After being closed for a number of years, the traditional market that sold everything from fresh produce to seafood found new life when it was taken over and renovated by Time Out Magazine.
Newly opened in May 2014, the market is a foodie haven, with a food court that includes offerings from some of Lisbon’s finest chefs, including Alexandre Silva, Miguel Castro e Silva, Henrique Sá Pessoa, and Marlene Vieira. You can also find outposts of well-known stores, such as Conserveira de Lisboa (selling traditional canned fish) and Arcádia (fine chocolates from Porto).
There are over 40 establishments in all to choose from, with covered seating for over 500 and a 250 seat terrace that offers great views of the nearby Tagus River.
Time Out Market is open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.
