Barcelona is a treasure trove for art lovers. The city is a feast for the eyes, and whether your interest is in architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, art galleries, monuments, or all of the above, you can indulge all of your artistic interests in this one beautiful city on the Mediterranean.
There is a long list of artists that are associated with Barcelona, but perhaps the ones at the top of any list are the two artists who are considered the founders in their respective fields of art: famed architect Antonio Gaudí, and renowned artist Pablo Picasso.
Antonio Gaudí left his indelible mark on Barcelona, and his iconic buildings immediately come to mind when you think of this beautiful city. No visit to this city is complete without visiting one or more of his world-renowned buildings, including the Sagrada Familia Church, Casa Milà (also known as La Pedrera), Casa Batlló and Park Güell.
Pablo Picasso is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. The Picasso Museum in Barcelona was the only one created during his lifetime and it was the first to be solely dedicated to his work. With over 4,200 works, it houses the most complete permanent collection of his work.
The Art Lover’s Tour is designed to give you an overview of these artists’ works by visiting the most iconic sites associated with each artist. The 4 hour private tour can be customized to meet your specific interests.
The following is a suggested itinerary:
- You will begin the tour at the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí’s best known masterpiece. You will bypass the entrance line (see note below regarding entrance tickets) and tour the interior of the church with your guide. The visit takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete (2 hours if the towers are included).
- Take a taxi to the Picasso Museum, located in the Born district of the Old Quarter. The museum is housed in a series of palaces that date from the 13th-15th centuries, and contains works from Picasso’s early years, the Blue Period, and the entire Las Meninas series. You will bypass the entrance line (see note below regarding entrance tickets) and tour the museum, which takes approximately 1.5 hours.
- If you do not visit the towers of the Sagrada Familia, you can use any remaining time to explore some of the streets surrounding the museum in El Born to learn about the Old Quarter.
Please note that both the Sagrada Familia and Picasso Museum require entrance tickets, and ticket sales may be limited to a certain number of visitors per day. The tours do not include entrance tickets, but they can be purchased in advance at the request of the client at an additional cost.
