If you enjoy learning about the history of royal families, or are interested in knowing what it’s like to live like a royal, you will really enjoy this itinerary. It’s also perfect if you’re looking for a quick getaway and want to see a lot of different things without ever having to change hotels.
As the capital of Spain, Madrid has been home to the reigning monarchs since the current Royal Palace was built in the mid-1700s. Madrid’s Royal Palace is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family. In addition to the palace in Madrid, the Spanish Monarchs also built summer palaces in nearby Aranjuez and La Granja, as well as a Royal Monastery in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. All are just an hour drive or less from Madrid, and are well worth the trip.
