This 5-star hotel is an 18th C. palace set on the grounds of an estate with royal roots that date back to the 14th C. The estate and its gardens were the setting for the tragic story of forbidden love between Prince Pedro and Ines de Castro. In 1355 Pedro’s father, King Alonso IV, ordered the killing of Ines and she died at the Fonte das Lágrimas (Fountain of Tears) in the estate’s gardens.
The palace has been carefully restored to showcase its elegant original features. Guest rooms are located in the original palace building, the Garden section and the Spa section.
The hotel is located just outside of the historic center of town.
