Located just 50 km south of Lisbon, Palmela is a charming town located in the foothills of the Arrábida Mountains. The region is well known for its wine production, and each September it draws many visitors for the wine festival that celebrates the first grape harvest. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all and take a step back in time to when things moved at a slower pace.
The best way to round-out your step back in time is to check into the Pousada de Palmela, which is a 17th C. castle. From its hilltop location perched on the edge of town, there are panoramic views of the rolling countryside and the Atlantic Ocean. The town of Setúbal, Portugal’s third largest port, can be seen in the distance, as it is just 8 km away.
The castle’s 28 guest rooms are spacious, and include Standard rooms, larger Superior rooms, and spacious Suites that have a sitting area. There is one Special Suite that is a large corner suite with a living room, separate bedroom with king size bed, a large dressing room, and sweeping views of the town.
