Segovia is an enchanting city with a picturesque Old Town and a number of historic sites that has earned it the distinction of being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the very center of town visitors can marvel at a Roman aqueduct that was built in the 1st C. and is considered one of the Roman Empire’s most impressive works of engineering. You can also tour a 16th C. Gothic cathedral that was the last one built in Spain, and wander through a 12th C. castle that looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. It is said that the Alcázar was one of the inspirations for Disney’s Cinderella Castle.
The best way to explore this city is to take a walking tour with a local guide who will tell you about Segovia’s history, including how a Roman aqueduct built in the 1st C. without any mortar can still be standing today. Your guide will meet you at the train station if visiting Segovia as a day trip from Madrid, or at your local hotel.
On this 4 hour private tour you can explore the main sites in this historic city, including the iconic Aqueduct, Cathedral and Alcázar Castle. Your guide will customize the tour to include the sites that are of most interest to you. An itinerary could include visits to some of the following sites:
- Roman Aqueduct
- Alcázar Castle
- Gothic Cathedral
- La Muralla (ramparts)
- Iglesia de Vera Cruz
- Iglesia San Esteban
- Iglesia de San Martín
- Judería (Jewish Quarter) and the old Main Synagogue
- Plaza Mayor
- Casa de los Picos
Please note that the Alcázar limits the number of visitors they admit per day, so it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance to ensure admission on the day of your tour.
