Self-catered apartments are a great alternative to traditional hotel accommodations. Not only do they provide more space to hang out in, but they also give travelers a sense of independence and the feeling of living like a local.
In our previous blog post we highlighted a number of self-catered apartments located in the Eixample area of Barcelona. In this post we feature two apartments located in Barcelona’s popular and trendy neighborhoods: El Born and Gràcia.
El Born is one of Barcelona’s oldest neighborhoods. It is located adjacent to the Gothic Quarter in the area between the Via Laietana and Barceloneta, and includes sites such as the Picasso Museum and the Church of Santa María del Mar. It is a vibrant and fashionable area that is popular by day, and comes alive at night when many people come to the area to enjoy the many bars and restaurants that dot this medieval part of the city.
Gràcia is located north of the Eixample area. It is one of the original neighborhoods of Barcelona that was actually still an independent town until the late 19th C. You won’t see a lot of tourists in this area, as the only major site of interest is Gaudí’s Parc Guell, but it does get a lot of foot traffic, as the area is extremely popular and has become a very trendy place to live. The heart and soul of the area is the Plaça del Sol, which is lined with terrace cafes and nightlife. The neighborhood continues to be a very tight-knit community and it comes alive each year in August, when they host a 5 day festival that includes a competition by the residents to see who has the “best dressed street.”
The following lists the self-catered apartment options in El Born and Gràcia. Although the apartments are self-catered, they have either on-site staffed reception areas with limited hours (Allada), or assistance is provided by a related hotel property that is staffed at all times (Gran de Gracia). The apartments are fully furnished and equipped with towels, linens, and kitchenware, and daily maid service is provided.
