Take a break from the sightseeing in Lisbon to explore the Centro Region of Portugal. On this 8 hour private tour you will explore the Portuguese countryside and visit a medieval village with a 12th C. castle, a fishing village, and a 12th C. UNESCO World Heritage Site monastery.
You will be picked up at your hotel at 8:30am to begin your private tour. Your first stop will be the medieval village of Obidos, where you can step back in time while you walk down the cobblestone streets that are lined with whitewashed houses and charming shops. Along the way you can stop to taste the famous local cherry liqueur “ginjinha” that is served in a chocolate cup. You can also explore and climb the walls of the 12th C. Obidos castle that dominates the hilltop.
Leaving Obidos you will head north to the coast for a visit to the picturesque fishing village of Nazaré. The town is famous for its surfing and big waves, white sandy beaches, and restaurants that serve fresh seafood. It’s a prefect place to take a break for lunch and enjoy the ocean views.
The last stop on the tour is a visit to the Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest church in Portugal. During your guided visit of the Monastery your guide will tell you about the tragic tale of Prince Pedro I and his murdered mistress Inés de Castro, Portugal’s greatest love story. Their beautifully carved tombs are placed facing one another in the transept.
