On the Menu…Ultramarinos Quintín Restaurante, Madrid (Spain)

September 9, 2020 By International Lodging Corporation

Ultramarinos Quintín is a local favorite restaurant that is part market, part restaurant and bar. It is located on the corner of a lovely tree-lined street in Madrid’s upscale Salamanca neighborhood. Prior to being converted into a restaurant, the building had been home to a grocery store – ultramarinos in Spanish – so the name is a nod to the store that had long-occupied the space, as well as a reference to the market offerings found inside of the building today.

Quintín’s inviting interior is lined with food counters and shelves offering a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, cured meats, freshly baked bread, prepared dishes and much more. Tables are spread throughout the large space surrounded by exposed brick walls. The ambiance of this trendy restaurant is lively and vibrant, but there is also a cozy feel to this trendy restaurant that attracts a nice mix of neighborhood locals and visitors from near and far.

The cuisine at Quintín highlights a broad selection of Spanish dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes a variety of small dishes to share, salads, a selection of hams that includes their own Jamón Ibérico (cured ham), and main entrees of meat, fish and traditional stews. There is even a selection of pasta dishes and pizzas to choose from.

On the Menu…El Cocinillas, Madrid (Spain)

October 10, 2018 By International Lodging Corporation

El Cocinillas is a charming and inviting neighborhood restaurant that is tucked away on a winding cobblestone street in Madrid’s hip and trendy Malasaña neighborhood. As you walk by the large picture windows you will be drawn in by the casual and chic decor, with white painted brick walls, wood furnishings and crisp white linen tablecloths.

Chef Julián Lara traded in his career in interior design, which no doubt contributed to the restaurant’s welcoming and cozy interior, to dedicate himself to his true passion for food. The menu he created at El Cocinillas draws from a number of Mediterranean influences beyond his native Spain, including Italian, French and Moorish cuisine. Some of the dishes offered include eggplant with mozzarella gratin and tomato sauce that is light and delicious, delicately cooked cuttlefish over an avocado timbal, homemade meatballs with a Sicilian caponata sauce, chicken tagine served over couscous with confit lemon and olives, cannelloni filled with braised oxtail and pecorino cheese, mussels in curry sauce, and cod served over a confit of red peppers and tomatoes. And be sure to leave room for dessert, as you wouldn’t want to pass on the creamy rice pudding, tasty tiramisu, or decadent dark chocolate cake, all of which are prepared with the same refined touch as the savory dishes.

Diners will find it hard to choose between the many delicious dishes offered at El Cocinillas. While many of them seem simple and traditional, the secret is that the kitchen is turning out dishes that are delicately prepared using the freshest ingredients, and at a price point that represents true value for money. Appetizers range from €9.50 – €13, entrees range from €13.50 – €21, and desserts are €5, which means that for around €30 you can enjoy a true dining experience at this little gem of a restaurant located in the heart of one of Madrid’s hippest neighborhoods.

On the Menu…Celicioso Gluten Free Bakery, Madrid (Spain)

October 11, 2017 By International Lodging Corporation

Good news for travelers visiting Spain who follow a gluten free diet…you can have your cake and eat it too! There is a growing awareness and accommodations that can be made for people who suffer from celiac disease or gluten allergies, so you won’t have to miss out on all of the amazing foods offered.

Nowhere has this awareness been more embraced than at Celicioso Bakery. Their storefront location in Madrid’s trendy Chueca neighborhood serves up beautifully crafted treats that are delicious, regardless of whether you are gluten free or not. Guests staying at the chic Only You Boutique Hotel on nearby Calle del Barquillo can also enjoy the gluten free treats at the bakery’s outpost located adjacent to the hotel, with convenient access off the hotel lobby.

Celicioso was launched by Santi Godfrid in 2012, after he was diagnosed with celiac disease 2 years prior at the age of 23. Rather than resign himself to a life without the foods he loved, like bread, cakes and cookies, Santi set out to create a place where he and others like him could find a wide selection of their favorite foods, all 100% gluten free. The best part is that even if you don’t have any dietary restrictions, the products prepared at Celisioso are so good that you won’t even notice they are gluten free.

And if your travels happen to take you to Marbella, a popular vacation spot on the Costa del Sol, you can visit the first Celicioso bakery to be opened outside of Madrid. It is located in the Hotel Puente Romano.
