Usually the streets of Pamplona are considered calm, but now and then that perception changes quickly!
Sunday marked a particularly ugly run of the legendary “running of the bulls.” Tourists and locals were chased at high speeds through the ancient town’s cobblestone streets.
Here’s an intense description from the International Herald Tribune, “Sunday’s run — the seventh of the festival — featured six massive Miura bulls, traditionally the largest and fastest-running fighting bulls bred in Spain. Many of those running alongside the bulls had to dive for cover as the pack neared during the half-mile (850-meter) stretch from corral to the bullring, with some crushed, cut and bruised.”
